Considered
as the last inca refuge, which resisted for
decades to the Spanish conquerors. It is
located at the top of a canon of Apurimac in
a geographically strategic area between the
Andean Mountains and the edge of the Jungle.
Actually, only 10% of the whole citadel can
be appreciated
DAY 1: Cusco -
Cachora - Rosalina Beach
We pick you
up at your hotel between 4:20 a 4.40 a.m,
leaving Cusco at 5:00am in a private
transportation during 3 hours until we get
to Cachora town, place from where the long
trek will begin, but prior to our arrival we
will have arranged the mules and horses.
From these place, we can observe the
majestic snowcapped pick known as Padreyoq,
which is at 5,482 m above sea level. This
first day of 21.50 kilometers, we will have
3 hours of plain road from Cachora to
Capuliyoq Viewpoint and 4 hours going down
the hill until 1,580 msnm. of the camping
site.
DAY 2: Playa -
Rosalina - Choquequirao
Early in the morning, at
6:00 a.m. we will continue our way, of
course, after breakfast, until Choquequirao.
We will be arriving to the archeological
site after 6 hours, good time to enjoy this
majestic place, we will observe three levels
of the excavated ruins, terraces and other
parts of this inca city (depending on the
time, we will be able to observe the flight
of the condors).
DAY 3: Choquequirao - Maizal
We will leave from this
place around 7:00 am. Towards Maizal along
the sidesteps that goes up to the passage of
Choquequirao, 3.300 m above sea level. From
where we will have impressive views of the
cliff of Apurímac, immediately we will
descend to the small archeological complex
of Pinchiunuyoq and Rio Blanco (White River).
We will have lunch here, and in the
afternoon we will go up to Maizal, which
will take us about 3 hours walking.
DAY 4: Maizal -
Yanama
We will leave Maizal, to
camp. The next day, approximately at 7:00
a.m we will begin to hike up the scarped
ascent for 4 hours to the pass of Yanama
(4.500 m above sea level), from which we
will have impressive views of the picks of
Choquetacarpu and Purinasillu. We will take
a break, in order to descend towards the
community of Yanama (3.400 m above sea level)
to finally encamp at this place.
DAY 5: Yanama
- Plateriachayoc - Collpapampa
We will start our trek
approximately at 6:00 am. The way is flat
inclined and takes 2:30 hrs. Then, we will
ascend for about 1 hr., in order get through
the mountain pass of Yanama, 4.700 m above
sea level. The landscape is typical of the
Puna zone so that we will have the
snowcapped picks Salkantay and Hunantay, as
we descend we can observe that the flora
will be changing until we get close to the
proximities of our camp site, which is a
typical high jungle, with cold and humid
weather at night but warm during the day.
These places are at an altitude of 2900 m
above sea level
DAY 6: Plateríachayoq - Aguas Calientes
We will leave at 6 a.m.
This day our walking is easier, because the
way is flat (going down) we will walk along
the left margin of the river Santa Teresa,
in the middle of subtropical forest where we
will see coffee crops, native fruits. After
3 hours approximately we will arrive to the
town of Lucmabamba. Here we will take a car
which will take us to Santa Teresa in about
40 min. Then we will have to walk for
another 40 min. until se reach the flying
basket to cross the Vilcanota river. the
other side of the river we will catch a car
which will take us until the hydroelectric,
where we will lunch. After that, we will
catch the train at about 4:00 pm. After an
hour or so we will arrive to Aguas Calientes
where we will spend the night in a
comfortable hostal
DAY 7: Machupicchu - Cusco
Very early we will get
ready to enter to the great Machu Picchu on
foot. You will have a guided visit for 2
hours. Finishing the tour, we will return to
the city of Cusco.
